Thank you for your interest and generosity in assisting with our competition. We have contacted everyone that has signed up to judge the competition for the 2019 UofT Cup. Judge registration is now closed.
We are presently seeking University of Toronto law alumni and law students to judge both the preliminary and the elimination rounds. Judging will consist of assigning scores to mooters as well as delivering feedback and suggestions for improvement. By volunteering to score and give feedback to our participants, you make it possible for us to run our tournament. We are extremely grateful for your generosity of your time and expertise.
The event itinerary is linked here.
Let us know if you can assist with any or all of:
Saturday, February 9th from 11:00 am – 6:15 pm
Sunday, February 10th from 11:45am – 3:00 pm
The need is greatest for judges at the Saturday qualifying rounds. Preference will be given to volunteers who can judge for a full day. If you are only able to participate for part of any day, then please specify the duration and we’ll arrange accordingly.
Lunch and dinner will be provided on Saturday, and lunch will be provided on Sunday.
The U of T Cup will take place at the Jackman Law Building of the U of T Faculty of Law, with each judge being assigned to a room.
Judges will be briefed prior to judging in order to explain what to expect out of an undergraduate moot. Undergraduate mooting consists only of oral submissions (no factums required), and judges are given a rubric on which to score competitors on areas such as professionalism, style, and content. Each round will consist of approximately 50 minutes.
If you would like an example of an undergraduate moot, we advise you to look at the Osgoode Cup 2016 final round.
All judges are invited to observe the final rounds on Sunday, and to attend the Saturday evening banquet, which will feature a catered three-course dinner and an address from our keynote speaker.
If you have any questions about judging or our schedule for the weekend, do not hesitate to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
